Cranberry Swirl Brownies

Cranberry Swirl Brownies

Here’s a recipe that has a combination of ingredients you don’t see often. Adding cranberries to the traditional brownie works for a certain subset of people who need some tartness to balance the rich, fudgy sweetness of the chocolate. I mean they still love chocolate, everyone does (right?), but they just like it a certain way. Cranberries really are incredibly versatile. Hope you like this one. 👩🏻‍🍳

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1/3 cup cranberry sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat Oven – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Wet Ingredients – In a mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  3. Dry Ingredients – Sift in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined (do not overmix).
  4. Pour – Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  5. Cranberry Sauce – Drop small spoonfuls of cranberry sauce on top of the batter and use a knife or toothpick to swirl it into the mixture.
  6. Bake & Cool – Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let cool completely before slicing into squares.
  7. Enjoy 👩🏻‍🍳

Notes

  • Make it Rich – For a richer brownie, substitute dark chocolate for cocoa powder by melting 1/2 cup of dark chocolate with the butter.
  • Texture – Ensure the cranberry sauce isn’t too runny; it should hold its shape for swirling. See here on how to make it thick.
  • Storage – Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
