Are Cranberries Citrus?

Are cranberries considered citrus fruit?

Cranberry Citrus

No they’re not.

Citrus Defined

CITRUS WIKIPEDIA – “Citrus is a genus of flowering trees and shrubs in the rue family, Rutaceae. Plants in the genus produce citrus fruits, including important crops such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits, pomelos, and limes.”

CRANBERRY WIKIPEDIA – “Cranberries are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs or trailing vines in the subgenus Oxycoccus of the genus Vaccinium.

See you can see by these definitions that they do not fall under the same category.

It’s an interesting question though because when it comes to food you never know what’s what, even if it seems obvious.

People have asked if cranberries are a fruit, which they are, yet even though they have the word berry in them, they are not technically berries.

So it’s logical to question the categorization of all foods, especially fruits and vegetables.

Who knows, broccoli and spinach may be considered nuts, almonds and peanuts considered dairy, and chicken wings may be their very own food group – they are that good.

Hope this helps.
